Regional Centers provide Early Intervention Services for children from birth to age 3. These services support developmental milestones and address delays as early as possible. Many are free and not income-based. Some may be covered by insurance or Medi-Cal.
Developmental Delay
Significant delay (25% or more) in cognitive, communication, physical/motor, social-emotional, or adaptive skills areas qualify a child for services.
Established Risk Condition
Diagnosed physical or mental conditions likely to result in developmental delay (e.g., Down syndrome, cerebral palsy) qualify for early intervention.
High Risk Factors
Medical, biological, or environmental factors that increase risk of delay (e.g. premature birth, prenatal exposure to harmful substances).
IFSP Creation
If eligible, an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) will be created to outline services and support.
Children transition to their school district for services at age 3 under an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
